  • Rushville Levee Unit Public Notice

    Expiration date: 8/27/2020

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers , Kansas City District has prepared an Environmental Assessment and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in accordance to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended, for the Rushville levee setback and realignment, authorized under Public Law 84-99. The recommended plan includes a levee realignment that would cross a National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Wetland Reserve Program Easement (WRP). The Rushville levee was damaged in the 2019 flood event, and the proposed project would restore flood protection to over 9,000 acres of land. Disturbed wetlands would be mitigated for at a site adjacent to the project. The environmental assessment was completed for USACE but is to be adopted by the NRCS and includes relevant NRCS information and guidance. The project assumes NRCS approval of the realignment. The landowner supports the levee realignment. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has made a preliminary determination that the proposed action would not result in significant degradation to the environment and therefore supports preparation of a draft FONSI. The EA, draft FONSI and supporting information are provided with issuance of this Public Notice on July 27, 2020 to initiate the public review and comment period, which will extend until August 27, 2020.
