  • Enbridge, Line 41 Missouri River Horizontal Directional Drilling Pipeline Project: Proposed Alteration of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Project Pursuant to Pursuant to 33 USC 408

    Expiration date: 7/21/2023

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District is evaluating a Section 408 Request to Alter a Federal Project pursuant to 33 USC 408. Enbridge’s proposed project would involve work on the Missouri River and Federal Levee MRLS 448-443-L. Enbridge would complete installation of a 20-inch petroleum pipeline via horizontal directional drilling under the Missouri River and Federal Levee MRLS 448-443-L. The project would be conducted completely on Enbridge easement and approved private land. The public notice summarizes the proposed project, public interest review, and environmental evaluation.

  • Final Record of Decision for Forbes Atlas Missile Site S-5

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has completed the Record of Decision for the Former Forbes Atlas Missile Site S-5. Site S-5 involves groundwater contamination and remedy. Record of Decision was reviewed and concurred upon by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), USACE Kansas City District and USACE Northwestern Division. It is expected that the remedy will be in place at the site by 2029. A copy of the Record of Decision is available to the public for viewing at the link below.

  • Draft Environmental Assessment for Missouri River Recovery Program - Pelican Bend B Interception Rearing Complex Project

    Expiration date: 9/3/2023

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Kansas City District (NWK), has conducted an environmental assessment (EA) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended. In the draft Environmental Assessment for Pelican Bend Interception and Rearing Complex (IRC) Project, dated May 2023, USACE assessed the effects to the human environment of the proposed project. The goal of this project is to test the hypothesis that mostly passive, free-floating pallid sturgeon embryos and larvae are entrained in the thalweg, the deepest and fastest flowing portion of the constructed navigation channel and are unable to move to the channel margins where adequate food production and foraging opportunities exist.

  • Kansas City District prepares draft Feasibility Report for proposed Buckeye Creek Section 14 Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District (USACE), has prepared a draft Feasibility Report with integrated draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1968, as amended, for the proposed Buckeye Creek Section 14 Project. The draft Feasibility Report and integrated draft EA was prepared to assess and document potential effects to the human and natural environment of the project’s Tentatively Selected Plan (TSP), as tiered from the 2018 Section 14 Emergency Streambank Protection Program Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA). The USACE has made a preliminary determination that the proposed project would not result in significant degradation to the environment and therefore supports preparation of a draft FONSI. The draft EA, FONSI, and supporting information are provided with issuance of this Public Notice June 2, 2023, to initiate the 30-day public review and comment period.
