  • Stockton Lake holds joint emergency preparedness exercise

    Officials held an emergency preparedness tabletop exercise at Stockton Lake in Stockton, Missouri, on December 6, 2023, to showcase the joint emergency preparedness between local, state and federal agencies in the area. The tabletop exercise was coordinated and led by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In attendance at the exercise were representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, National Weather Service, Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, Missouri Highway Patrol and St. Cloud County Emergency Management.
  • Public invited to attend open house for Former Nebraska Ordnance Plant

    Officials will host an open house on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, to provide information about the Former Nebraska Ordnance Plant. The open house will be hosted by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and project personnel will be available to provide and interpret groundwater sampling results and other site data. There will be a brief informational presentation on the 2022 Containment Evaluation. Anyone interested in learning more about the project is encouraged to attend.

    By the end of this post-pandemic year, it was apparent that we would finish strong, and we did. In fiscal year 2023, we had total obligations of over $625 million and 1,354 total contracts. “Our entire team has worked with national, state, regional and local partners to support the Heartland in many critical ways. I am proud of our work to support the people and governments in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado,” said Col. Travis Rayfield, commander, Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

    Officials are hosting a public outreach meeting in Brunswick, Missouri, on Monday, December 11, 2023, to discuss the flood resiliency study near Brunswick, Missouri. The meeting will be held at the Knight and Rucker Banquet Hall, 119 East Broadway St, Brunswick, Missouri, 65236. It is hosted by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
  • Public comment period extended for the Kansas River Reservoir Flood and Sediment Study

    The public comment period for the Kansas River Reservoir Flood and Sediment Study has been extended to December 29, 2023. Officials are hosting public meetings for the Kansas River Reservoir Flood and Sediment Study this month and will occur at locations throughout the basin. The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with the Kansas Water Office and Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, has prepared the Draft Watershed Study Report for the Kansas River Reservoirs Flood and Sediment Study.
