  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of the Wild Whoopers agree to assist in the recovery of endangered whooping cranes

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Friends of the Wild Whoopers to assist in the recovery of endangered whooping cranes. Per the MOU, USACE and Friends of the Wild Whoopers will jointly assess whooping crane migration stopover habitat at USACE water resources development projects. The assessments will be used by USACE to develop work plans that maintain and improve existing habitat and create additional habitat for this critically endangered bird as part of USACE Environmental Stewardship Program.
  • Officials rededicate Milford Lake Dam on 50th anniversary

    Milford, Kan. — Local, state and federal officials gathered Saturday to rededicate the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Milford Lake Dam fifty years after its original dedication at East Rolling Hills Park. The ceremony commemorated the 50th anniversary of Milford filling to capacity.
  • Public health warning for Milford Lake

    Junction City, Kan.— Milford Lake is under a lake-wide warning based on cyanobacteria/toxin results from June 27 conducted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Blue-green algae are actually types of bacteria known as Cyanobacteria. When certain conditions are present, such as high nutrient and light levels, these toxic producing organisms can reproduce rapidly producing a harmful algae bloom. KDHE, in cooperation with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and other lake managers where appropriate, respond by informing the public of these conditions. Based upon sampling results and established health risk levels, the warning for all three zones of Milford Lake are in effect.

    MILFORD, Kan. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District at Milford Lake will host an open house to review seasonal plans for lake elevations at the Milford Lake Conference Center in Acorns Resort, 3710 Farnum Creek Road, Milford, Kansas, May 4 from 2-4 p.m.
  • Eagle Day planned at Milford Nature Center

    JUNCTION CITY, Kan.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Milford Lake and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will host the annual Eagle Day event Saturday, January 16, at the Milford Nature Center in Junction City, Kansas. The Nature Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with several free activities including live eagle programs, kid’s crafts and bus rides to eagle viewing stations around Milford Lake.
