• “Spring Aboard” - Boaters urged to get educated before boating season

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The temperature may still be cool outside, but it is a perfect time of year to start getting prepared for the boating season. Boating safety advocates are urging boaters to enroll in a boating education course prior to the main boating season. Spring Aboard – Take a Boating Education Course campaign is a nationally coordinated effort during the week of March 18-24, 2018 to increase the awareness of taking a boating education course.
  • Kanopolis Lake sees lower spring lake elevations

    MARQUETTE, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake advise visitors that early spring lake elevations will be lower than in normal years. The spring lake level increase will be delayed in order to safely complete construction work which includes replacement of the service gates and inspection of earthen materials from the tower and upstream approach channel.
  • Corps of Engineers completes permit decision for Kansas River Commercial Dredging

    KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has completed the Record of Decision for proposed commercial dredging permits on the Kansas River. Five applicants have received proposed permits to extract sand and gravel from the river by hydraulic dredging. The Corps regulates the proposed dredging under the authority of Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act.

    MARQUETTE, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake recently discovered vandalism to an ancient petroglyph and is seeking information from the public.
  • Tuttle Creek Lake construction update – road over dam closed

    MANHATTAN, Kan. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, announces initiation of construction for two major construction projects near Tuttle Creek Dam. These projects include replacement of the bridge deck over the dam’s spillway structure at the east of Tuttle Creek Dam in Pottawatomie County and rehabilitation of the stilling basin (locally known as “the tubes”) located below the dam in Riley County. Spillway Bridge Deck Replacement Project: The contractor for this project, Wildcat Concrete Services, is mobilizing to the job site the week of February 12 and is expected to begin work immediately on the bridge. Highway K-13 between its intersections with Riverpond Road and Dyer Road/Spillway Marina Road will be closed beginning February 21 for an estimated 8 to 10 months.
