  • Topeka KS, Soldier Creek Flood Risk Management Project HDD Renewable Biogas Pipeline

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has conducted an environmental review for a Section 408 permit. The proposed project would be to construct a buried steel renewable gas pipeline within the Critical Zone of the Unites States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) levees at the Kansas River and Soldier Creek. This pipeline will cross the Kansas River and Soldier Creek. The project location starts at Oakland Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) at 1115 NE Poplar Street, Topeka, Kansas, and ends at the Southern Star gas pipeline where it crosses NE Meridian Rd, north of the city limits. The USACE has made a determination that the proposed project would not be injurious to the public, the environment, or to the federal project. The Public Notice provided initiates the 15 day public review and comment period.

  • Kansas City MO, Blue River Dodson Flood Risk Management project 20in HDD Natural Gas Pipeline

    Expiration date: 11/1/2019

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has conducted an environmental review for a Section 408 permit. The proposed project would involve work on the Dodson Flood Protection Project and would complete installation of a 20-inch natural gas line via horizontal directional drilling under a floodwall north of the Blue River. The project is between Hickman Mills Dr. and Highway 71 in Kansas City, Missouri, at longitude 38.585837 N and latitude 94.331660 W. The USACE has made a determination that the proposed project would not be injurious to the public, the environment, or to the federal project. The Public Notice provided initiates the 15 day public review and comment period.

  • Draft Grand River Feasibility Study & Environmental Assessment

    Expiration date: 11/20/2019

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended, for the Grand River ecosystem restoration feasibility study. Components of the tentatively selected plan would be located on and around Pershing State Park, Fountain Grove Conservation Area and Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Carroll, Chariton, Linn and Livingston counties in north central Missouri. The tentatively selected plan also includes implementation of bank stabilization projects in the upper portion of the Locust Creek sub-basin. Projects may be implemented in the Watkins Creek-Locust Creek (excluding the portion in Iowa); East Locust Creek; West Locust Creek; and Locust Creek watersheds. The overall purpose of the study is to identify a plan that will achieve ecosystem restoration benefits within the Lower Grand River sub-basin. Specifically, to reverse the trend of degradation of wetland, aquatic and floodplain habitats within the areas of Pershing State Park, Fountain Grove CA, Swan Lake NWR, Yellow Creek CA, and surrounding public and private lands. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has made a preliminary determination that the proposed action would not result in significant degradation to the environment and therefore supports preparation of a draft FONSI. The EA, draft FONSI and supporting information are provided with issuance of this Public Notice on October 8, 2019 to initiate the public review and comment period, which will extend until November 20, 2019.

  • Next Generation Squad Weapons – Ammunition

    Expiration date: 10/11/2019

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended, for the proposed construction and operation of a Next Generation Squad Weapons – Ammunition (NGSW-A) production facility at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP). The project is located on the east side of Independence, Mo. and less than 5-miles from the City of Buckner, Mo. The purpose of the Proposed Action is to construct and operate a NGSW-A manufacturing facility for the production of 6.8mm general purpose and special purpose ammunition at LCAAP. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has made a preliminary determination that the proposed action would not result in significant degradation to the environment and therefore supports preparation of a draft FONSI. The EA, draft FONSI, and supporting information are provided with issuance of this Public Notice on September 11, 2019 to initiate the 30-day public review and comment period.

  • Public Notice - Missouri River Levee System Unit R471-460 Flood Damage Reduction Project St. Joseph, Missouri / Elwood, Kansas

    Expiration date: 9/29/2019

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has prepared a Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) and associated Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1968, as amended, for the proposed Missouri River Levee System Unit R471-460 Flood Risk Management Project, Kansas and Missouri. The project is located along the Missouri River between Elwood, Kansas and St. Joseph, Missouri. The purpose of the project is to reduce flooding risk and damage to structures, flood fighting, flood related injuries, or loss of life. USACE has made a preliminary determination that the proposed project would not result in significant degradation to the environment and therefore supports preparation of a Draft FONSI. The project has been designed to meet the 1% annual chance exceedance (ACE) or the height corresponding to the 0.2% ACE, which meets requirements for FEMA certification. The Draft EA, FONSI, and supporting information are provided with issuance of this Public Notice on August 29, 2019 to initiate the 30-day public review and comment period.
