Tuttle Creek Lake ready for busy holiday weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Looking for a last minute location to camp or BBQ? Tuttle Creek Lake staff are advising visitors that facilities are nearly filled and to prepare for a busy weekend. “The weather forecast is beautiful. The lake level is good, and the water is warm,” explains Tuttle Creek, Corps of Engineers Park Manager Melissa Bean. “It’ll be a good weekend to visit the lake.” Some facilities are fully booked.

Harlan County Lake gains improved tainter gates for safety of dam

REPUBLICAN CITY, Neb. – The Kansas City District and the Harlan County Lake team hosted a ribbon cutting event at the recently repaired Harlan County Dam May 11, 2018. The many changes needed to the tainter gates, sluicegates, and irrigation lines required a multi-disciplined project delivery team to focus on execution, quality, and schedule. This allowed for efficient accomplishment of the work on this complex dam project. The Harlan County Dam was the District’s top dam safety concern and received immediate and sustained attention to reduce the risk early and find the right repairs to greatly enhance the long-term safety of the dam.

Pomona Lake has closed 110 Mile Campground

VASSAR, Kan. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Pomona Lake announce the permanent closure of 110 Mile Campground effective May 1, 2018. Due to underutilization and projected budget restrictions, the camping area, equestrian area, and nature trail will close in an effort to improve other park operating efficiencies and provide quality recreation opportunities for the public. The day-use boat ramp facility at 110 Mile Park will remain open with no operational changes.
