  • Rock protection project begins on portions of the Harlan County Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has begun construction on a project placing a rock, also called riprap, overlay on portions of the upstream side of Harlan County Dam, near Republican City, Nebraska. This project will protect the dam from future wind and wave erosion.
  • Corps of Engineers at Harlan County Lake announces temporary closures

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Harlan County Lake has announced closures to portions of the Harlan County Dam Spillway and Project Office. Access to the stilling basin below the dam and parking areas in North and South Outlet campgrounds will be closed to the public from October 7 thru October 25. Activities related to periodic inspections of the dam and stilling basin by USACE staff account for these closures.
  • Harlan County Lake gains improved tainter gates for safety of dam

    REPUBLICAN CITY, Neb. – The Kansas City District and the Harlan County Lake team hosted a ribbon cutting event at the recently repaired Harlan County Dam May 11, 2018. The many changes needed to the tainter gates, sluicegates, and irrigation lines required a multi-disciplined project delivery team to focus on execution, quality, and schedule. This allowed for efficient accomplishment of the work on this complex dam project. The Harlan County Dam was the District’s top dam safety concern and received immediate and sustained attention to reduce the risk early and find the right repairs to greatly enhance the long-term safety of the dam.
  • Harlan County Lake hosts ribbon cutting for gate repair

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Media members and the public are invited to Harlan County Lake, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, part of the Kansas City District, which will host a ribbon cutting for the recently completed project to repair the mechanisms for multiple tainter gates which allow the Corps to release water from the lake. The event is Friday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at Harlan County Lake near Alma, Neb. Col. Doug Guttormsen, commander of the Kansas City District, and other dignitaries will speak at the event hosted at a location with a view of the dam – the North Outlet Park.
  • Corps announces temporary bridge closures over Harlan County Dam

    REPUBLICAN CITY, Neb. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District Harlan County Dam Project Office is alerting the public to intermittent temporary road closures on the bridge over the Harlan County Dam from May 15, 2017 to Sept. 15, 2017.
