Corps announces temporary bridge closures over Harlan County Dam

Work continues to repair, replace and modify structural steel components of the tainter gates on the Harlan County Dam. The project is scheduled to wrap up in the spring of 2018.

REPUBLICAN CITY, Neb. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District Harlan County Dam Project Office is alerting the public to intermittent temporary road closures on the bridge over the Harlan County Dam from May 15, 2016 to Sept. 15, 2016.

The closures are a result of the continuing work to rehabilitate the tainter gates on the Harlan County Dam.

A temporary bridge closure can occur at any time between these dates, except for weekends or federal holidays. At least one lane will be open at all times during weekends or federal holidays. Otherwise, the closure could shut down both lanes across Harlan County Dam from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. At least one lane will be open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Signed detour routes will be provided during full closures.

Timed traffic signals are installed on both ends of the spillway bridge during one-lane closures.

Lane restrictions are limited to vehicles less than 8 feet 6 inches.
