U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and partners announce public meeting for Little Blue River Basin Study

The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its partners will hold a public meeting on Sept. 23, 2025, to share findings and gather public input on the Little Blue River Basin Flood Risk and Ecosystem Restoration Study.

The cities of Blue Springs, Grandview, Independence, Kansas City, Missouri, Lee’s Summit and Raytown, and Jackson County are conducting the Little Blue River Basin Study with the help of USACE and the Mid-America Regional Council. This comprehensive study aims to evaluate current basin conditions and propose potential solutions to reduce flood risk, enhance the aquatic and riparian ecosystem, and build community resilience across the Little Blue River Basin in Blue Springs, Grandview, Independence, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit and Raytown in Jackson County, Missouri.

The meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will feature a short presentation on preliminary findings and proposed alternatives, followed by an opportunity for questions and public comment. Officials intend to collect formal input as the study progresses toward the Final Report, anticipated in March 2027, with the Chief’s Report submitted to Congress in September 2027.

Through this basin investigation, USACE and its partners aim to identify balanced strategies to reduce flood risk for communities, protect and restore aquatic and riparian ecosystems and support public health and safety.
