  • Boat safety encouraged with record low at Wilson Lake

    SYLVAN GROVE, Kan.,— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wilson Lake reminds boaters to be especially safe with record low lake levels. At 8.5 feet below normal conservation pool, many shallow water hazards are present. Much of the west end of the lake is too shallow to operate. As levels continue to decline, underwater structures become newly exposed hazards.

    Extreme heat and dry conditions at Wilson Lake have prompted officials to impose a fire ban. In an effort to protect the safety of persons and property, Russell County Commission's emergency ordinance has placed a resolution prohibiting the discharge of fireworks in the county. Officials have further issued a burn ban impacting the entirety of Wilson Lake for the following.

  • Non-reservable campsites in Minooka at Wilson Lake

    Due to public demand, Minooka Park will now have 10 campsites that are non-reservable and available first come, first serve. Historically, Minooka Park has been 100% reservable since 1999. Reservations are allowed six months in advance and a majority of our sites were being reserved well in advance of the summer holiday weekends. By setting aside 10 electrical sites, we are now providing an equal opportunity campsite for families on a first come/first serve basis that do not have the means to plan a vacation six months in advance.
