  • Smithville Lake holds rededication ceremony for Jerry L. Litton Visitor Center

    On October 16, 2023, Smithville Lake, along with the Litton Foundation, held a rededication ceremony for the visitor center named after the late Jerry L. Litton, congressman from Chillicothe, Missouri. Congress authorized the Smithville Lake visitor center to incorporate the Jerry L. Litton Museum following Litton’s death in 1976. Prior to the rededication ceremony, the visitor center housed the Jerry L. Litton Museum, was home to several U.S. Army Corps of Engineers informational exhibits and served as USACE administrative offices. In 2022, USACE notified the Litton Foundation of its intent to remodel the building.
  • Visitor Center operations at Truman Lake continue: Fridays through Sundays

    The Harry S. Truman Lake Visitor Center continues to remain open Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays through September 30, 2023, and there are no plans to close the visitor center. The visitor center also offers educational programs by appointment, including special events whenever feasible.
  • USACE reopens several visitor center doors in the Heartland

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is pleased to announce the re-opening of several visitor centers to the public, with consideration for local health conditions, access is subject to change. Facilities have primarily operated on an appointment-only basis since Spring of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask visitors to follow safety precautions which may be posted on entry doors.
  • Corps of Engineers taking precautions, Visitor Centers closed

    Due to health precautions regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), all Kansas City District Visitor Centers are closed. Safety is our number one priority. Nothing is more important than the safety of our visitors, customers, contractors and our people. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide timely updates regarding other potential facility closures at our lakes on our websites and/or social sites.
  • Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake announce limited access to Jerry Litton Visitor Center

    SMITHVILLE, Mo.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake announce limited public access into the Jerry Litton Visitor Center due to construction projects scheduled November 12, 2018 through March 31, 2019. All Visitor Center exhibits will be closed. The reception area of the visitor center will remain open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. for maps and general information.
