  • USACE seeking public input on potential Rathbun Lake fall release

    The Kansas City District, U.S Army Corps of Engineers is asking the public for input regarding the Rathbun Lake annual fall release. The Kansas City District will be accepting public input now until August 31, 2024.
  • Public invited to meetings scheduled for upcoming Water Control Manual updates

    Updates to Water Control Manuals and reviews of the Water Control Plans for Melvern, Pomona and Hillsdale Dams and Reservoirs will be the subject of a series of public meetings held by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in March 2024. Congress provided funding and direction to USACE districts across the country do make administrative updates to the Water Control Manuals, to evaluate Water Control Plans and update as necessary and include a drought contingency plan for managing water releases from reservoirs during drought conditions.
  • Drought conditions at Tuttle Creek Reservoir result in reduced target flows at De Soto and Topeka

    Continued drought conditions in the Kansas River basin will result in reduced target flows at De Soto, Kansas, and Topeka, Kansas, starting November 1, 2023. The Kansas River at De Soto, Kansas, flows will be reduced from 1,000 cubic feet per second to 800 cubic feet per second, and the Kansas River at Topeka, Kansas, flows will be reduced from 750 cubic feet per second to 600 cubic feet per second. These flow targets are met to maintain water quality on the Kansas River.
  • Pomme de Terre Reservoir to conduct low flow test release

    Pomme de Terre Reservoir will conduct a test release starting on October 3, 2023, reducing flows from 50 cubic feet per second to 10 cubic feet per second over the course of 11 days. The test release will end on the afternoon of October 13, 2023. The test release will start the flow reduction process around 3:00 p.m. on October 3, and will decrease flows by as much as five cubic feet per second, each day.
  • Public invited to attend meeting for Water Control Manual updates in Waverly, Missouri

    A public meeting to discuss the updates to the Water Control Manuals for dams on the Lower Kansas River in Waverly, Missouri on August 17, 2023, will be held by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more how USACE uses the Water Control Manuals at each of its reservoirs, how the Missouri River both influences and is impacted, how these updates will be accomplished and to provide their input.
