Pomme de Terre Reservoir will conduct a test release starting on October 3, 2023, reducing flows from 50 cubic feet per second to 10 cubic feet per second over the course of 11 days. The test release will end on the afternoon of October 13, 2023. The test release will start the flow reduction process around 3:00 p.m. on October 3, and will decrease flows by as much as five cubic feet per second, each day.

The test release is being conducted as part of the update to the Pomme de Terre Reservoir Water Control Manual and specifically the Drought Contingency Plan. Working with state and federal agencies, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers developed an alternative drought operating plan. The plan uses a phased approach, which reduces releases to mimic more closely the natural hydrologic flow pattern of the river while continuing to address the authorized purposes of the reservoir.

Updates on the test release will be posted to the Pomme de Terre Facebook page at Pomme de Terre Lake, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers | Hermitage MO | Facebook.

The public is encouraged to exercise safety on and near the water. Lake level and release information can be obtained from the Kansas City District website at http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Locations/Water-Management/.
