  • Corps provides safety tips for Memorial Day weekend

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Water is one of the premier destinations for Memorial Day weekend and with that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District’s 18 lakes see a huge increase in visitors. We value the safety of our visitors and want each and every individual to have a safe and enjoyable experience this holiday weekend and encourage everyone to think about these five recreation safety tips this Memorial Day weekend:

  • Clinton Lake dam road closure related to COVID-19

    The road across Clinton Dam (E 900 Road) will be closed as of 9:00 a.m. on April 7, 2020, until further notice due to unsafe gatherings and parking conditions near the south end of the dam. This decision was made in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department with the safety of our visitors and community in mind.

  • Turn Around, Don’t Drown: High water impacting recreation areas at Kansas City District lakes

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers urges everyone to never drive through flooded roadways. Please turn around, don’t drown. As you are well aware this spring has been a wet one. Back in March rapid snowmelt and rainfall upstream brought many lakes in the area to higher than normal elevations. With significant flooding on the Missouri River many lakes were unable to release water and lower elevations.

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants to urge everyone to never drive through flooded roadways. Please turn around, don’t drown.

  • Construction work near Perry Lake dam during August and September

    PERRY, Kan. – Corps of Engineers staff will be working at Perry Dam in August and September 2018 to rehabilitate the existing ditch located along the downstream toe. This ditch provides drainage to the 32 relief wells located downstream of the dam. The relief wells reduce hydrostatic pressures within the foundation of the dam and improve overall stability. The relief wells and drainage ditch are critical features to the dam and the Corps will rehabilitate the ditch to ensure that the system continues to serve its purpose and the dam can continue to operate safely. While Corps officials do not anticipate any road closures, they do urge caution to drivers near the construction to be aware of trucks and equipment using the toe road of Perry Dam.
