STOCKTON, Mo. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Stockton Lake are teaming up with the Missouri Stream Team, National Public Lands Day and the Kansas City Frogman Dive Club to host the 20th annual Stockton Lake Cleanup Event on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 8 a.m. Lunch and prizes will be provided to volunteers following the event at noon.

For nearly two decades volunteers have donated time and services to aid in keeping Stockton Lake the clean and beautiful natural resource that it is. “Volunteers help pick up litter along the shoreline, cleanup beaches and boat ramps, and help with trail maintenance and extension,” informs Derrick Phillips, Stockton Lake park ranger. “They also plant trees, flowers and shrubs. It’s a great way for the community to come together and help us keep these public lands well cared for. It’s a team effort for a cleaner, safer recreating environment for all to enjoy.”

Area merchants and business leaders also support the event. “Not only do they volunteer their time, but also food, beverages and prizes for all volunteers. For the first time ever, a kayak will be given away to a volunteer participant,” said Phillips. “We hope the donation of the kayak on our 20th event anniversary will encourage a record number of participants.”

To volunteer or to request additional information about the event call the Stockton Lake project office at (417) 276-3113 or contact the Kansas City Frogman Dive Club by phone at (816) 796-7583 or by email to pattyred59@sbcglobal.net.
