MARQUETTE, Kan. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake will host its special muzzleloader deer hunt on Corps of Engineers land on the backside (east) side of the dam.
The hunt, a muzzleloader-only hunt event, will allow hunters that have a hunter education certificate, or valid hunting licenses, to be drawn from a pool of applicants to hunt at the assigned area. Hunters are required to carry a “special hunt” permit issued by the Corps of Engineers and follow all Kansas statutes. Normally, hunting below the dam at Kanopolis Lake is limited to shotgun and archery methods only.
These hunts will be administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Kanopolis Lake. One hunter and a guest will be allowed to hunt the first week (Sept. 17-23), and a second hunter and a guest will be allowed to hunt the second week (Sept. 24-30) of the early muzzleloader season. The successful applicant for each hunt will be allowed two permits.
All applicable Kansas hunting regulations and required tags pertaining to the deer muzzleloader season will be required. Please refer to the 2012 Kansas Hunting and Furharvesting Regulations Summary from KDWP.
Interested applicants may contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Information Center at Kanopolis Lake by telephone at (785) 546-2294, or e-mail at kanopolis@usace.army.mil to be considered in the drawing. Anyone interested in applying for these hunts must do so by 4 p.m. Sept. 10, 2012.
