KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City District continues to monitor the river which remains dangerously high. We urge levee districts, local leaders and those affected by flooding to remain vigilant as localized rains could make conditions worse.
“Remember, this event is not over, water is still high in the Missouri River system and tributaries, and we’re still here to assist the levee districts,” said Col. Doug Guttormsen, commander of the Kansas City District.
The district has distributed over 614,000 sandbags, distributed three automatic sandbagging machines to various locations and have had seven pumps in operation in 13 distinct counties in Kansas and Missouri. The efforts of local volunteers to fight the flooding has been exemplary. We continue to receive and fulfill requests through local authorities to state emergency managers for support.

Our emergency managers have travelled by helicopter over the areas with damage in Kansas and Missouri to assist local authorities as to where the most significant damage to levee systems are located. We are in this for the long haul and while the current threat is not over, we want to assist the recovery process to happen quickly.
Our leaders and staff continue to meet with regional, state and national officials to address their concerns and help map out the way to a successful recovery.
