  • Public Meeting Notice – Open House for the Former Nebraska Ordnance Plant on Nov. 16

    The public is invited to an informative Open House for the Former Nebraska Ordnance Plant hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, from 4:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Country Club in Yutan, Nebraska. The VFW Country Club is located south of Highway 92 at 1581 Yutan Road. Project personnel will be available to provide and interpret groundwater sampling results and other site data.
  • Rock repairs to start at Tuttle Creek Dam, portions of dam closed to public

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has announced an upcoming construction project to repair the rock overlay on the remaining portions of the upstream side of Tuttle Creek Dam. During 2019, portions of the existing rock overlay degraded due to the extended duration of high water and wave action. The initial phase of these repairs was completed in fall and winter 2021. Work is expected to begin on or around Nov. 1, 2022, and will require closure of public access at the east and west dam parking lots and the entire upstream face of the dam. These closures include all pedestrian access and bank fishing.
  • Levee raise contract for about $15 million awarded by USACE Kansas City District for Missouri River near St. Joseph

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District awarded the Missouri River Levee System unit R471-460 levee raise north of US-36 contract to H.B. Construction, Inc., from Platte City, Missouri, for $14,178,505.38 on Sept. 16, 2022. This is the largest contract awarded on the R471-460 and L455 levee unit and is the fifth out of six contracts on the overall project.
  • USACE Rathbun Lake seeks public comment on draft Master Plan: public meeting scheduled for Nov. 15

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or USACE, Kansas City District, has prepared a draft Master Plan for Rathbun Lake with an Environmental Assessment and a Finding of No Significant Impact – known as a FONSI - that are available for public review. USACE is soliciting public comments on the draft Master Plan, Environmental Assessment and FONSI during a 60-day review period that opens Oct. 11, 2022, and will close Dec. 10, 2022. A public meeting will be held on Nov. 15, 2022, from 3-6 p.m. at the Rathbun Regional Water Association Water Treatment Plant, 16166 Highway J29, Centerville, IA.
  • Geoff Van Epps promoted to brigadier general

    Geoff Van Epps was promoted to the rank of brigadier general today in a traditional military ceremony at the historic Gen. George C. Marshall House at the former Vancouver Barracks in Vancouver, Washington. Major General Richard Heitkamp, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, hosted a long-standing traditional ceremony which is a public indication of the increased responsibility that the service member is about to assume. Photos from the ceremony will be released later today.
