The City of Lawrence and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clinton Lake Project
Office announced today that the road to the Clinton Dam north outlet area is to
remain closed until the major excavation and concrete work for improvements to
the City’s Clinton Water Treatment Plant Raw Water Pump Station is completed.
The
closure began Feb. 15 and was expected to last through April 1, 2016. However,
the closure will now remain in effect until at least August 2016. The closure
area begins at the City of Lawrence Mutt Run parking lot and goes to the
Clinton Dam north outlet area with all public access, to both vehicles and
pedestrians, prohibited. The extended closure is necessary to ensure the safety
of visitors because of the heavy construction equipment in the area.
The
Mutt Run parking lot will remain open during construction. The construction
will not affect walking or hiking access within the Mutt Run area. Construction
will not affect access to the channel from the south outlet area.
Visitors
to Mutt Run or the outlet channel should be aware of increased traffic and
activity associated with the construction project.
