Marquette, Kan., - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake is converting Riverside Park to a “reservation only” campground beginning with the 2015 summer season from May 15 through Sept. 15. With a total of 25 campsites situated along the Smoky Hill River, Riverside is the smaller of the two U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ campgrounds at Kanopolis Lake.
Same day arrivals or “Walk-in” camping will no longer be authorized in Riverside Park during this time period. However, “walk-in” campers will still be welcome to camp at Venango Park on the North end of the Kanopolis Dam. Campers that prefer the Riverside campground will be required to make a reservation at least one day in advance of their arrival. For example, a camper wanting to arrive on May 20th could make a reservation on May 19th at the latest.
Campers can still make a reservation six months in advance of their projected arrival date. Implementation of the reservation only system will allow the USACE to improve operational efficiencies while maintaining a high customer service standard. “Walk-in” camping will resume in Riverside Park after the summer season has ended on Sept. 15.
To make a reservation at any U.S. Army Corps of Engineer park, please visit www.recreation.gov or call the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS) at 877-444-6777. For questions regarding this change please contact the Kanopolis Project Office at 785-546-2294.
