LAWRENCE, Kan., – The Kansas City District Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake, the Jayhawk Audubon Society, and USD 497 would like to invite the public to attend the 19th Annual Kaw Valley Eagles Day. The event is free of charge and will take place on Jan. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Lawrence Free State High School.
The popular family event will include nature exhibits and hands-on kids’ activities, such as making an eagle, a fishing game, or dissecting owl pellets. The Prairie Park Nature Center will bring a live bald eagle and other Kansas raptors, and there will be presentations throughout the day on nesting bald eagles in Kansas and the Baker Wetlands. Food will be available for purchase.
In addition, eagle-viewing field trips will be held at 10:45 a.m. and 3 p.m., leaving from the north entrance of Free State High School. Free bus rides will be available to the public on a first come, first served basis. A Park ranger or wildlife biologist will be on each bus to tell you about the eagles of Clinton Lake.
“It’s very rewarding to learn that several people each year see their very first bald eagle in the wild while on these tours with us,” stated Kyle Broockerd, Park Ranger at Clinton Lake.
