PERRY, Kan.—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake partnered with members of the Atchison Quality Deer Management Association to hold the first Warrior in Transition Managed Deer Hunt on December 12 through 14.
Six Soldiers from Fort Riley's Warrior Transition Battalion spent the last weekend of the Kansas deer rifle season at Perry Lake participating in guided deer hunts. The Soldiers spent their nights in cabins at the Perry State Park and hunted all day Saturday and Sunday in areas normally restricted to hunting. A total of nine deer, eight does and one buck, were harvested over the weekend.
The hunt was definitely a great experience for everyone involved and an excellent opportunity to give back to the Soldiers for their service. The Perry Lake Corps of Engineers would like to send a special thanks to all the local businesses and groups who donated to the event. We really appreciated all the support from the local community. Without the local support the event would not have taken place.
