Site tour and open house at former Nebraska Ordnance Plant

MEAD, Neb.—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites the public to their annual Site Tour and Open House scheduled for Wednesday, Jun. 11, 2014, at the Main Groundwater Treatment Plant at the junction of County Road 6 and County Road F, in Ashland, Neb.

The Open House will be from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. where Corps of Engineers’ staff will be available to answer questions and discuss community concerns. A variety of handouts and displays will be available along with light refreshments.

The tour will begin at the Main Groundwater Treatment Plant with a demonstration at 5 p.m. on how ultraviolet light treats explosives contamination in groundwater. A bus will then depart at 5:30 p.m. to the following locations: Main Groundwater Treatment Plant, Load Line 4 and Advanced Oxidation Process Groundwater Treatment Plants, extraction well EW-5 pump house, the Atlas Missile Area, and focused extraction well FEW-15. The tour will end at 7:30 p.m. at the Main Groundwater Treatment Plant.
