KANSAS CITY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District is reopening operations following the shutdown of the federal government for lack of fiscal 2014 funding legislation which began on October 1.
This includes visitor centers, boat ramps and similar facilities that are typically open this time of year at all 18 of the district’s lake projects. The following camping areas will be reopened by Friday, October 18:
Clinton Lake, Kan. – Woodridge and Rockhaven Parks;
Harlan County Lake, Neb. - Hunter Cove Park;
Harry S Truman Lake, Mo. - Berry Bend South, Berry Bend Equestrian, Bucksaw, Long Shoal,
Osage Bluff, Sparrowfoot, Talley Bend, Thibaut Point, and Windsor Crossing Parks;
Kanopolis Lake, Kan. – Riverside and Venango Parks;
Melvern Lake, Kan. – Outlet and Sundance Parks;
Milford Lake, Kan. – West Rolling Hills Park;
Perry Lake, Kan. - Rock Creek Park;
Pomme de Terre Lake, Mo. - Pittsburg Landing;
Pomona Lake, Kan. - Outlet, 110 Mile, Cedar, and Wolf Creek Group Camp;
Stockton Lake, Mo. - Crabtree Cove, Hawker Point, Cedar Ridge, and Ruark Bluff East Parks;
Tuttle Creek Lake, Kan. - Tuttle Cove Park;
Wilson Lake, Kan. – Minooka, Lucas, and Sylvan Parks.
Reservations for camping can be made up to a year in advance at www.recreation.gov or by calling the reservation customer service number at 1-888-448-1474.
All furloughed employees within the district have been notified of the end to the government shutdown and notified of when to return to work. This includes regulatory staff that was furloughed on October 15. All regulatory activities will resume immediately.
