Contract awarded for Harlan County Dam repair

Published Sept. 25, 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The Kansas City District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract September 20, 2013, to BCI Construction USA from Belleville, Illinois, in the amount of $ 4,058,367 for fabrication of stoplogs, guides and support beams.

The new stoplogs are the first step of repairing the spillway gates located at the center of the dam. The stoplogs allow gate repairs to be made without lowering the lake level. The Corps of Engineers will not lower the lake water level for purpose of making repairs to the gates.

The construction of the stoplogs is expected to take less than one year. Some lane closures on the road across the dam will be necessary during the installation of stoplogs, guides, beams, and anchors. Lane closures will be minimized especially during the high traffic summer weekends.
