Corps to hold youth hunt at Clinton Lake

LAWRENCE, Kan.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake, in partnership with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the Kaw Valley Sportsmen Association, will host its Sixth Annual Youth Turkey Hunt at Clinton Lake on April 7, 2012.

Nine hunters between the ages of 10 and 16 will be drawn from the pool of applicants. These lucky hunters will be assigned a hunting area which is open to hunting only for the purpose of this hunt. The Clinton Lake Youth Turkey Hunt encourages these young hunters to get outdoors and teaches the ethics of hunting in a safe, controlled environment.

Hunters must carry a “special hunt permit” issued by the Corps and be assisted by an adult mentor. All hunting must be in compliance with Kansas statutes. 

Applications are available at www.nwk.usace.army.mil/cl/Hunting-Special.cfm or copies can be picked up at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center at Clinton Lake. The applications are due by 4 p.m. on March 19 and may be dropped off or mailed to Clinton Lake Project Office, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 872 N. 1402 Rd., Lawrence, KS  66049.
