Kansas City District emergency management responds to 2019 flood event.

Six years ago, the historic Missouri River flooding of 2019 devastated communities across the Kansas City Metro and surrounding regions. Now, as another flood season approaches, the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking proactive steps to safeguard critical infrastructure and enhance community preparedness.

To discuss these efforts and the role USACE plays in flood prevention, response, and recovery, we invite you to a media event on March 25, 2025, at our Missouri River Area Office. Subject matter experts will be available for interviews and will provide key insights into how the district is working alongside state, local, and tribal agencies to mitigate flood risks.

Why This Matters:

  • Flooding disrupts lives, damages property, and has lasting economic impacts.

  • USACE plays a vital role in flood risk management, ensuring communities have the resources and engineering expertise to prepare, respond, and recover.

  • This event offers exclusive access to experts who can break down what’s being done before, during, and after a flood to protect lives and infrastructure.

Key Topics to Be Covered:

  • Emergency Response & Preparedness – How USACE works with local agencies to strengthen flood defenses and response plans.

  • Levee & Dam Inspections – The current state of our flood protection infrastructure and ongoing inspections.

  • Post-Flood Recovery & Future Planning – What happens after a flood, and how USACE helps communities build resilience for the future.
