Pittsburg Park camping activity to close

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Pomme de Terre Lake announce the permanent closure of camping within Pittsburg Park located at the end of RA Highway, effective December 1, 2024. The boat ramp, shelter, vault toilets and playground facilities will remain open to visitors for day-use and lake access.

“This closure will enable us to maintain other facilities that are in higher demand and more cost-effective for meeting visitor needs now and into the future,” says Shannon Henry,  natural resource manager at Pomme de Terre Lake.

The decision to close the campground was made due to increasing operation and maintenance costs. The high cost of capital investments to maintain and improve existing systems, as well as changing visitor demands over the past 50-years, also informed the decision to close the area to camping. Resulting cost-savings will be used to maintain existing, more highly visited campsites to ensure high-quality camping opportunities continue to be offered within Pomme de Terre USACE-managed parks.

USACE-managed campgrounds Nemo, Damsite, Outlet, Wheatland and Lightfoot remain open to camping. Status of open and closed parks, and available services at Pomme de Terre are maintained at www.CorpsLakes.us - Corps Lakes Gateway.
