Officials will hold a public meeting for the Lower Missouri River Jefferson City spin-off study on September 26, 2024, in Jefferson City, Missouri.

The meeting, which will be held by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, will present all study information up to this point and make sure all stakeholders know the information available regarding what alternatives have federal interest, and what the schedule looks like for the study going forward.

The purpose of the study is to identify causes and impacts of recurring flooding along the Capital View Levee and the unconstructed, but authorized, Missouri River Levee System L-142 project near Jefferson City, Missouri, in Callaway County. The study area includes the north or left bank of the Missouri River at Jefferson, City, Missouri, vicinity mile marker 142.

This is an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide input regarding the Lower Missouri Jefferson City spin-off study. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will continue to work on building community consensus and encourages the community to continue their own conversations to understand their neighbor’s point of view.

After the meeting, the USACE team will put together the study report and when it is released in November, it will be available for a public comment period. We encourage you to use that opportunity to formally provide your feedback and thoughts before the Agency Decision Milestone in March 2025.
