FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. -- The Fort Leonard Wood Warrant Officers Basic Course recently received some “hands on training” at the Hospital Replacement project currently under construction.
In coordination with the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Design/Build Contractor JE Dunn and their subcontractors, the WOBC students suited-up in their personal protective equipment and were briefed on site by engineering and construction subject matter experts of multiple fields; to include – geotechnical, environmental controls and permitting, surveying, soil classification, detention basins and safety. The group also discussed how to achieve project success, the importance of team collaboration and effective partnering amongst all stakeholders.
“This visit tied our classroom instruction into real world applications. We are at the tail end of Capability Tools Lesson that covered CAD, construction site horizontal layout, vertical control, grading, Unified Soil Classification, CBR, compaction, earth work planning, and Base Camp Layout. Your team provided onsite examples and explanations of all parameters. The majority of our students have little experience being on an active construction site. They learned and saw more in a two hour walk through of your site with your professionals than we can instruct to them in two weeks. Thank you and your team again for sharing your knowledge to our young technicians that will be applying it in few short months around the DOD,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3, Michael C. Smith, WOBC instructor.
