PERRY, Kan. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake announce Old Town, Rock Creek and Longview Parks will close for the season beginning Oct. 1, 2017. Slough Creek Park will remain open through Oct. 15, with exception of South Point and Limestone Cove Loops which will close on Oct. 1. Perry State Park, which is managed by Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will remain open during the winter months.
All boat ramps with exception of Worthington Boat Ramp, will remain open all year; daily use fees will not be collected Nov. 1 through Mar. 31. During the off-season courtesy docks may be removed for maintenance/repairs or when freezing water is expected.
"While these camp sites are closed for the season, we encourage campers to visit Perry State Park, which will remain open year-round. We also want to share outdoor safety tips during the fall and winter months," said Jason Hurley, park manager at Perry Lake. "Cooler air and water temperatures increase the risk of hypothermia. No matter the season, it’s always a good idea to wear a life jacket on the water."
The Corps of Engineers also stresses hunting safety. It’s important to know hunting seasons and to become familiar with local policies. Hunters and lake visitors should be aware of their surroundings.
"Please become familiar with local policies as it relates to tree stands/blinds, baiting, off-road vehicle use and state law on hunting or trapping. If you are out hiking we encourage you to wear bright colors, be aware of active hunting seasons, take a trail map along and be sure to have a cell phone or notify others of where you are and when you plan to return," said John Swinford, Perry Lake park ranger.
