Truman Dam functioning as designed: Open House Wednesday, March 13

Harry S. Truman dam is functioning as designed and is not currently at risk of a structural failure or overtopping. There are no anticipated changes to routine operations and maintenance activities due to the new dam safety classification. No structural repairs are currently planned or deemed warranted at this time to lessen the overall dam safety risk.

Corps to Host Dam Safety Open House at Truman Lake Visitors Center

The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a community open house Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Harry S. Truman Dam Visitors Center, located at Truman Lake. The open house will provide the public an opportunity to become more aware of risks associated with living below a dam and current projects at the lake. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Road scheduled to be closed temporarily at Truman Lake dam

The West Dam Access Road for the Truman Lake dam, near Warsaw, Mo., is scheduled to be closed from Jan. 22 through March 1, 2019 to replace culverts. During this time, the road crossing the dam will also be closed due to scheduled work within the Truman Power Plant.

Courtesy Docks Pulled on Truman Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers pulled courtesy docks at Corps managed boat ramps on Truman Lake. To reduce maintenance cost and to alleviate potential damage from icy conditions, courtesy docks have been pulled from the water at Truman Lake Corps of Engineers boat ramps during the Months of December and January. With this reductions in amenities offered, no day use fees will be collected during this timeframe. This action alleviates the need to monitor dock conditions during fluctuating lake levels and allows limited staff to concentrate on backlogged maintenance items. Project personnel plan to install courtesy docks at customary locations on or after February 1, 2019, or as lake conditions permit.

Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas in observance of Veterans Day

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,800 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day, Nov. 11 and 12. The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities (group picnic shelters) and events. Other agencies that manage recreation areas on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas that they manage.
