  • Public meeting for Smoky Hill River ecosystem restoration feasibility study cancelled

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has cancelled a public meeting scheduled for October 7, 2025, for the Smoky Hill River Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study and Integrated Environmental Assessment. USACE is still seeking public comments on the study’s draft documents during a 30-day review period that will close October 22, 2025. The public is invited to review the documents and provide feedback to help inform the final assessment.

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has prepared a draft Public Notice, along with a draft Feasibility Report and a draft Finding of No Significant Impact for the Smoky Hill River Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study and Integrated Environmental Assessment and is seeking public input on these documents. The Smoky Hill River is an integral part of the City of Salina's history - from power, navigation, local commerce, recreation and travel, the river has had a major impact on the city. However, due to a growing population and increased infrastructure development, the river has been impacted.
  • Public comment period extended for the Kansas River Reservoir Flood and Sediment Study

    The public comment period for the Kansas River Reservoir Flood and Sediment Study has been extended to December 29, 2023. Officials are hosting public meetings for the Kansas River Reservoir Flood and Sediment Study this month and will occur at locations throughout the basin. The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with the Kansas Water Office and Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, has prepared the Draft Watershed Study Report for the Kansas River Reservoirs Flood and Sediment Study.
  • Harry S. Truman Lake extends comment period for Master Plan revision

    WARSAW, Mo. - The public comment period for the revision of the Harry S. Truman Dam & Reservoir Master Plan has been extended to July 1, 2022. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun the process of revising the Harry S. Truman Dam & Reservoir Master Plan, which was last updated in October 1988. The revision would bring the Master Plan up to date with current policy and regulations, land usage or designations, as well as consider current and projected visitation and recreational trends.   • Rathbun Lake 2021 fall water release likely to be cancelled

    At present, Rathbun pool elevation is about half a foot above multipurpose 904.0 feet. Current conditions at Rathbun Lake appear to be unfavorable for the U.S. Army of Corps of Engineers to conduct a fall water release in either late September or early October 2021.
