• Kanopolis Lake announces updated trout fishing access for upcoming season

    Due to an ongoing construction project at the Kanopolis Lake stilling basin, trout stocking and public fishing access at Sand Creek will be modified for the upcoming 2025–2026 fishing season. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks manages the trout stocking program, while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manage the area.
  • Partners celebrate Parkville Bottoms Wetland Restoration Project completion with ribbon cutting

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with the City of Parkville, is pleased to announce the completion of the Parkville Bottoms Wetland Restoration Project. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Sept.23 at the Parkville Bottoms to celebrate this significant achievement. This ambitious project has successfully restored over 40 acres of vital aquatic, prairie and riparian habitat within the Missouri River floodplain. The restoration will substantially benefit fish and wildlife populations, while significantly enhancing recreational opportunities for the community.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and partners announce public meeting for Little Blue River Basin Study

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its partners will hold a public meeting on Sept. 23, 2025, to share findings and gather public input on the Little Blue River Basin Flood Risk and Ecosystem Restoration Study. The cities of Blue Springs, Grandview, Independence, Kansas City, Missouri, Lee’s Summit and Raytown, and Jackson County are conducting the Little Blue River Basin Study with the help of USACE and the Mid-America Regional Council.
  • Innovative Water Injection Dredging pilot project set to begin Sept. 17 at Tuttle Creek Lake

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with the Kansas Water Office, is pleased to announce the start of the first demonstration period for the innovative Water Injection Dredging project at Tuttle Creek Lake. The demonstration will take place from September 17 to 27, 2025, providing a real-world assessment of Water Injection Dredging's effectiveness for sediment management within inland reservoirs. This pioneering project aims to evaluate Water Injection Dredging (WID) and downstream discharge of sediment as a potential alternative to traditional mechanical dredging with offsite sediment disposal. WID uses a controlled injection of water, under pressure, to resuspend sediment from the reservoir bed and create a density current, allowing it to be carried downstream by gravity and the natural current.
  • Pomona Dam to undergo rip rap enhancement project

    Pomona Dam will undergo a rip rap overlay project on its front slope that is anticipated to start around Sept. 15, 2025. This project is necessary to reinforce the dam’s protective layer and ensure its continued structural integrity. The existing rip rap, placed over 60 years ago, has deteriorated due to natural weathering. This deterioration compromises the rip rap’s ability to protect the dam’s front slope from erosion and other potential damage. The project will involve placing new rip rap over the existing layer to restore the dam’s protective barrier.
