    A Kansas City District track-hoe on a barge work boat took part in hydrodynamic dredging operations on the Missouri River November 11, 2020. The hydrodynamic dredge head is mounted on the bucket and the arm directs the flow the desired area of concern to be affected. The Engineering Research and Development Center brought the system to Kansas City District from Vicksburg, Miss., to assist in clearing shoals that developed on the Missouri River due to damages from flooding to the river control structures. The device enabled the combined team to redirect sandy material back into suspension in the current of the river and away from the built-up areas that impede navigation on the river.

    U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center assists Kansas City Corps with hydrodynamic dredge

    In a demonstration of collaboration and innovation, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center deployed an experimental asset and team of experts to the Missouri River in the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to assist in dredging shallow areas called shoals in the navigation river channel.

    Heartland Corps celebrates ribbon cutting at Gasconade River Office and presents awards

    Col. Bill Hannan, commander of the Kansas City District, presided over a ribbon cutting for a new work facility and presented awards at our Gasconade River Office location, near Hermann, Mo. and later presented awards at our Missouri River Area Office in Napoleon, Mo., Dec. 1, 2020.

    Silver Jackets Coordinator 2019, Mr. Brian Rast, Kansas City District

    Rast named USACE Silver Jackets Coordinator for 2019

    The Silver Jackets Coordinator of the Year Award recognizes outstanding individual USACE efforts and contributions to a Silver Jackets team. The award recipient for 2019 is Mr. Brian Rast, of the Kansas City District. Mr. Rast serves as the USACE Silver Jackets Coordinator for the Kansas and Missouri Silver Jackets teams and has made significant contributions to meeting the states’ priorities for flood risk management in these roles. Mr. Rast has utilized the State Silver Jackets teams’ webpages to effectively communicate the teams’ partnership and interagency efforts and to keep past work readily accessible for reference. He has focused on building relationships between federal agencies to support the state teams, including co-facilitating a USACE-FEMA Partnering Meeting and establishing a Federal Partners Mitigation Workgroup. Mr. Rast readily shares his knowledge and expertise by conducting training sessions with partners on floodplain management plans and nonstructural flood risk management approaches.

    Kansas City District delivers $740 million program for the Heartland

    As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District wrapped up final contract awards for fiscal year 2020, the team wants to share a summary of a few major accomplishments and how they tie into the district mission and benefit the Heartland region. The district awarded 1575 contracts worth $740.1 million in fiscal year 2020 – ending September 30.

The surveys are also emailed out to navigators on a distribution list for the daily boat reports. Each survey is titled as to the portion of the river that was surveyed. You can also put a shortcut on your phone to a web app at: www.nwk.usace.army.mil/navigation which gives shortcuts to the most-use reports relating to the river and our reservoirs including a link to the most recent surveys.     Corps Kansas City survey crews helping define restricted areas on the Missouri River

    The Kansas City District, Missouri River Area Office has two survey teams who have been working long hours to identify locations and extent of shoaling in order to develop direct solutions in repairing the river training structures to improve the self-scouring function and to employ commercial dredgers to remove the sand shoals out of the river channel.
