The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

Maj. John Meyers assumed responsibility as the Deputy Commander of the Kansas City District in July 2025. He is a native of Chicago and commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after graduating from the University of Iowa in 2009.

Maj. Meyers earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Iowa and a Master of Science in Geological Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2014.

His previous assignments include: Bradley Commander and Assistant Operations Officer, 1st Armored Division; Construction Project Manager, 555 Engineer Brigade; Battalion Logistics Officer, 52nd Engineer Battalion; Company Commander, 576th Engineer Company; G35 Plans Officer, 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group; G5 Plans Officer, 10th Mountain Division; Brigade Operations Officer; 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division; Battalion Executive Officer, 41st Engineer Battalion.

Maj. Meyers is a graduate of the Engineer’s Basic Officer Leaders Course, Captain’s Career Course, Command and General Staff College and School of Advanced Military Studies.

Maj. Meyers has deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduing Freedom (2012-2013), to the Republic of Korea in support of Korean Rotational Forces (2017), as an Exchange Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces (2018-2020) and to Romania in support for Atlantic Resolve (2023).

His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 oak leaf clusters); the Army Commendation Medal (1 oak leaf clusters); the Army Achievement Medal (1 oak leaf clusters) and the Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 oak leaf cluster).

Maj. Meyers is married with four children.
