Civil Works Mission
Developing and Managing the Nation's Water Resources
THE NATIONAL MISSION
A Legacy of Service

The U.S. Army has a long history of serving the development of the Nation beyond traditional military missions.

Wide-Ranging Benefits

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works mission is varied and wide ranging, providing benefits for navigation, flood-risk management, hydropower production, fish and wildlife protection, environmental stewardship, recreation, irrigation and municipal water supply and emergency response.

KANSAS CITY DISTRICT OPERATIONS
Watershed Approach

To support this focus on the water and related land resources of the Nation, Corps Districts are organized according to the watersheds of our large rivers rather than by state boundaries.

Regional Footprint

The Kansas City District’s Civil Works mission area encompasses the Kansas and lower Missouri River basins, including parts of Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri.

Infrastructure Oversight

Within this area, the district operates eighteen multipurpose lake projects and provides oversight to hundreds of miles of levees and river channels.
