Heartland Corps of Engineers Lakes

Many campgrounds, boat ramps and other recreation areas have been closed, gated, or barricaded at nearly all lakes of the Kansas City District. If you have plans to visit a lake please double check area conditions. Visit recreation.gov to see what campsites are currently available for reservation.
Due to widespread heavy rainfall, lake elevations across the Heartland are at record highs. The lakes are working hard to hold the flood water, but some must make releases to ensure dam safety. Please follow your local county emergency management to stay updated on areas impacted by the high water.
Over 20 million people spend time target shooting annually. Target shooting has become one of the most popular and fastest growing recreational activity across the nation. Many of our lakes offer ranges for handguns, shotguns, rifles, muzzleloaders, and archery. Check out a lake near you for available shooting ranges.
If you come to a road that is covered with water turn around, you will likely not know the depth of the water or the condition of the road underneath as roadbeds may be washed out.
Seven lakes in the Kansas City District have off road vehicle areas available for the public. These off road vehicle areas provide opportunities for small vehicles like ATVs to large vehicles like UTVs and Jeeps. Not all areas offer the same opportunities so please double check the local rules and regulations. Check out a ORV area at a lake near you.
