Heartland Corps recognizes Geary County sheriff’s deputy and a Fort Riley Army soldier for heroism

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. — The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognized a Geary County sheriff’s deputy and a Fort Riley Army soldier for heroism yesterday in Junction City, Kan. At the Geary County sheriff's office, Milford Lake Park Manager Ken Wenger presented two 'Act of Heroism' awards to Private 1st Class Chance Harriss, stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., and from Sacramento, Calif., and Deputy Rick Parsons, from Junction City, Kan., for saving the lives of two children.

Tuttle Creek Lake ready for busy holiday weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Looking for a last minute location to camp or BBQ? Tuttle Creek Lake staff are advising visitors that facilities are nearly filled and to prepare for a busy weekend. “The weather forecast is beautiful. The lake level is good, and the water is warm,” explains Tuttle Creek, Corps of Engineers Park Manager Melissa Bean. “It’ll be a good weekend to visit the lake.” Some facilities are fully booked.

Corps provides water safety tips for Memorial Day weekend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Water is one of the premier destinations for Memorial Day weekend and with that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District’s 18 lakes see a huge spike in visitation.
