“Spring Aboard” - Boaters urged to get educated before boating season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The temperature may still be cool outside, but it is a perfect time of year to start getting prepared for the boating season. Boating safety advocates are urging boaters to enroll in a boating education course prior to the main boating season. Spring Aboard – Take a Boating Education Course campaign is a nationally coordinated effort during the week of March 18-24, 2018 to increase the awareness of taking a boating education course.

Cold water safety and hunter safety go hand-in-hand

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With the cooler weather upon us, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District emphasizes safety while enjoying seasonal recreation opportunities. “Fall and winter months provide additional opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy our lakes,” said Zach Wallace, park ranger at Pomme de Terre Lake near Hermitage, Mo. “It’s important to remember the dangers associated with colder seasons like hypothermia and hunting related activities. Accidents can happen and it’s vital all visitors take the appropriate steps to ensure a safe experience.”

Corps urges water safety for Labor Day weekend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers urges recreation seekers to follow safety tips while enjoying water-based activities, especially over the Labor Day weekend when larger crowds are anticipated. The Kansas City District, which manages 18 lakes throughout Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska, encourages the public to make this Labor Day weekend a safe and fun holiday while lowering the risk of accidents.

Corps emphasizes safety over July 4 holiday weekend

As one of the nation's largest federal provider of water-based recreation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District stresses water safety and urges extra caution while in or around water during the upcoming Independence Day holiday. Wear your life jacket. Since October 2016, Kansas City District lakes have experienced six drownings and one additional water-related fatality due to a fall overboard; 72% of which were between the ages of 14-43. Though none wore a life jacket, the majority of these tragedies may have been prevented by simply wearing a life jacket. Please do your friends and loved ones a favor – wear your lifejacket.
