    MILFORD, Kan. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District at Milford Lake will host an open house to review seasonal plans for lake elevations at the Milford Lake Conference Center in Acorns Resort, 3710 Farnum Creek Road, Milford, Kansas, May 4 from 2-4 p.m.
  • Repairs on slope of Sterett Creek Dike

    Warsaw, Mo.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Harry S. Truman Dam will begin non-emergency repairs to an earthen slide on the downstream slope of Sterett Creek Dike. The slide at Sterett Creek Dike was discovered in late December 2015 following six inches of rain. The saturated conditions are believed to have caused the slide. Harry S. Truman Dam project staff and geotechnical engineers from the Kansas City District Office monitor the dike routinely and have increased monitoring of the embankment since the slide occurred. It is anticipated the slide may take two to three weeks to repair.
  • Youth turkey hunt scheduled for Kanopolis Lake

    MARQUETTE, Kan.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake will host its youth turkey hunt Saturday, April 2, 2016. This event allows hunters access to public lands managed by the Corps of Engineers including refuge and park areas usually closed to hunting. Applicants, 15 years of age or younger, will be drawn and assigned to a specific hunting location. Hunters are required to have a mentor, 18 years of age or older with a valid Kansas hunting license, to assist the youth during the hunt. If the hunter does not have a mentor, one may be provided. All applicable Kansas hunting regulations apply and required tags pertaining to the youth turkey season will be required.   • Eagles Day scheduled for Clinton Lake

    LAWRENCE, Kan.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake, the Jayhawk Audubon Society and other local organizations will host the 20th annual Kaw Valley Eagles Day on Saturday, January 23, at the Lawrence Free State High School. The popular family event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free of charge. It will include nature exhibits and hands-on activities. Presentations throughout the day will provide information on nesting bald eagles in Kansas and a live bald eagle will be present.
