  • Air Force and USACE break ground for new vehicle maintenance facility at Whiteman Air Force Base

    A group of Air Force and Army leaders joined with construction professionals to mark the groundbreaking for the new vehicle maintenance facility at Whiteman Air Force Base near Knob Noster, Mo., Feb. 16, 2022. With airmen and civilians providing maintenance for the growing fleet of support vehicles at the base in facilities – some constructed during the build up to World War II – the Air Force funded the new consolidated facility which will greatly increase safety and efficiency. The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, serve as the construction agent for this military construction project. L.S. Black Constructors, of Saint Paul, Minn., is the prime contractor.
  • Kansas City District USACE supports flood risk reduction study for Valley Creek, Alabama – now signed by the Chief of Engineers

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, collaborated on a feasibility study on flood risk reduction for a creek in Alabama with the Mobile District and local leaders over the last three years. The Chief of Engineers, Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, signed the Chief’s Report on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021 referring the action to Congress where the project could be taken up in the next Water Resources Development Act. If approved, separate appropriations legislation would have to be passed to fund the construction of the project to benefit communities extending from Birmingham to Bessemer, Alabama via the Valley Creek Flood Risk Management Project.

    The Kansas City District wants all stakeholders - public, levee districts, local and state authorities - to pay close attention to conditions on the Missouri River. Water levels are high now in many locations and are forecasted to get higher.
  • Warrant officers at Fort Leonard Wood learn at replacement hospital project

    The Fort Leonard Wood Warrant Officers Basic Course recently received some “hands on training” at the Hospital Replacement project currently under construction. In coordination with the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Design/Build Contractor JE Dunn and their subcontractors, the WOBC students suited-up in their personal protective equipment and were briefed on site by engineering and construction subject matter experts of multiple fields; to include – geotechnical, environmental controls and permitting, surveying, soil classification, detention basins and safety. The group also discussed how to achieve project success, the importance of team collaboration and effective partnering amongst all stakeholders.
  • Army Corps of Engineers requires face masks at all recreation projects

    As we work to slow the spread of COVID-19, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds all visitors, volunteers and employees that a face mask is required in all USACE buildings and facilities. Masks must also be worn outdoors on USACE-managed lands and recreation areas if physical distancing cannot be met, such as when hiking on trails or visiting sites that may be popular or crowded.
