More water to be released from three Kansas reservoirs

Releases from Milford, Tuttle Creek and Perry reservoirs in the Kansas River Basin have been providing supplemental Navigation Support to the Missouri River since July 8 and will continue to do so through approximately August 7.

Fireworks and Campfire Ban at Wilson Lake, KS

Extreme heat and dry conditions at Wilson Lake have prompted officials to impose a fire ban. In an effort to protect the safety of persons and property, Russell County Commission's emergency ordinance has placed a resolution prohibiting the discharge of fireworks in the county. Officials have further issued a burn ban impacting the entirety of Wilson Lake for the following.

Corps releasing water from Kansas reservoirs to support navigation

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District has recently begun releasing water from three area lakes in Kansas to provide navigation support on the Missouri River. The Missouri Basin Water Management Office requested on July 9 the Kansas City District begin providing navigation support.

KDHE issues blue-green algae advisory for Milford Lake

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) samples recreational bodies of water for cyanobacteria, commonly called blue-green algae, when the agency is alerted to a potential algae bloom. When harmful algal blooms are present, KDHE, in cooperation with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and other lake managers where appropriate, responds by informing the public of these conditions. Based upon sampling results and established health risk levels, Milford Lake is currently under an “Advisory” status.
