  • Public health update concerning harmful algae at Kansas City District Pomme de Terre Lake

    Effective immediately, Nemo Beach and Wheatland Beach are closed to the public until further notice. The beaches will remain closed until water conditions improve. USACE staff are actively inspecting the beaches and monitoring water conditions.

  • Public comment sought on draft Water Control Manual update for Pomme de Terre Lake

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has prepared a draft Water Control Manual update for Pomme de Terre Lake, along with a draft Environmental Assessment and a draft Finding of No Significant Impact and is seeking public input on these documents. Pomme de Terre Lake, a multi-purpose project located primarily in Hickory County, Missouri, with portions extending into Polk County, Missouri, plays a crucial role in flood risk management, recreation, water supply and environmental stewardship.

  • Temporary recreation area closures and service reductions begin May 15 across Kansas City District, USACE

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily close or reduce services at recreation areas across Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa beginning May 15, 2025. USACE is currently managing seasonal staffing and resource limitations that affect its ability to safely open and maintain all recreation sites at normal levels of service. These temporary adjustments are being made at all 18 Kansas City District lakes to ensure visitor safety, protect environmental resources and sustain critical hydropower and dam operations.

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees and invites volunteers to participate in National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Saturday, Sept. 28. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. Other agencies and partners that manage recreation areas located on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to comply with this waiver of day use fees in the areas they manage.

  • Pomme de Terre Reservoir to conduct low flow test release

    Pomme de Terre Reservoir will conduct a test release starting on October 3, 2023, reducing flows from 50 cubic feet per second to 10 cubic feet per second over the course of 11 days. The test release will end on the afternoon of October 13, 2023. The test release will start the flow reduction process around 3:00 p.m. on October 3, and will decrease flows by as much as five cubic feet per second, each day.
