$27 million contract awarded to repair Missouri River navigation structures

Midwest Construction Company, of Nebraska City, Nebraska, was awarded a contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to make repairs to river training structures on the Missouri River. The $27 million for the repair work comes from the BIL – Bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation – and is expected to be the first of several separate contracts awarded in the next 12 months to support navigation on the Missouri River. Kansas City District contracting officer, Dave Best, signed the task order award on Aug. 11 as Col. Travis Rayfield, commander of the Kansas City District and several others from the project delivery team looked on yesterday.

50-year-old Water Control Manual updates slated for Pomme de Terre, public input needed

Hermitage, Mo. – Plans to update the Water Control Manual for Pomme de Terre Reservoir are underway. The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an Open House to share information regarding the manual update process and receive public input about issues and concerns related to the management of reservoir levels and dam flows.

Pomme de Terre Lake Open House and comment opportunities for Shoreline Management Plan

Hermitage, Mo. – An updated Shoreline Management Plan for Pomme de Terre Lake is now available for review and public comments soon. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an Open House to share information and receive public comments on Aug. 24.

USACE announces planned fall release from Rathbun Lake on Chariton watershed

The public is invited to comment on the Rathbun Lake fall release as permitted in the revised 2016 Rathbun Lake Water Control Manual. The fall release will occur likely between the last week of September through early October 2022. The release of water will not exceed 2,700 cubic feet per second from Rathbun Reservoir and would be on-going for no longer than three or four days, excluding the ramp up and ramp down.

Flood risk management project planned for Merriam, Kansas

On June 29, 2022, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, and the City of Merriam, Kansas, signed a design agreement to begin design on a series of floodwalls and levees to reduce flood risk in the Merriam community. The project will involve constructing up to 6.5-foot-tall floodwalls and 6-foot-high levees for around 1.5 miles from Shawnee Mission Parkway to Merriam Drive. It will also require modifications to the Merriam Bridge and other utility modifications.
