Smithville Lake Managed Deer Hunt scheduled

SMITHVILLE, Mo.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake will host a special deer hunt for disabled hunters on November 21 and 22. This year commemorates the 26th anniversary of the Annual Managed Deer Hunt which consists of 65 blinds that are accessible by truck in and around designated park areas and Waterfowl Refuge. All hiking and biking trails at Smithville Lake and Smithsfork Park will be closed for the two-day event. This hunt continues to prove a success year after year for many hunters that otherwise would not have the ability to enjoy deer season.

Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee to meet in South Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. - The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee will hold its next quarterly meeting Nov. 17-19 in Rapid City, South Dakota. The public is welcome to attend; opportunity to address the committee and the lead agencies, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, regarding the Missouri River Recovery Program will be provided during each daily session.

Missouri Basin runoff slightly below average; draft Annual Operating Plan available for comment

OMAHA, NE - Runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa for the month of September was just under 1.0 million acre feet (MAF), 84 percent of average. The 2015 runoff forecast is 24.9 MAF, 98 percent of average. Average annual runoff is 25.3 MAF. The total volume of water stored in the Mainstem Reservoir System is currently 59.3 MAF, occupying 3.2 MAF of the 16.3 MAF combined flood control storage zones. “System storage declined 1.0 MAF during September. Water that was captured in the reservoirs during the spring and summer is being released to serve navigation and other downstream purposes,” said Mike Swenson, team leader in the Missouri River Basin Water Management Division. “Our plan is to evacuate all water stored in the flood zones of the reservoirs prior to the start of next year’s runoff season, which typically begins around March 1.”

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosts successful youth deer hunt at Perry Lake

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake hosted their Youth Deer Hunt September 12 and 13. This annual event is usually held during normal firearms season in December; however the event took place in September this year to accommodate for more predictable weather.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announce periodic inspection and road closure at Tuttle Creek Lake

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake announce an upcoming periodic inspection of the stilling basin, which occurs every five years. This planned inspection will cause a temporary traffic detour near the stilling basin beginning Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 23.
