UPDATE: Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works announces ‘Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork’ initiative for the Army’s Civil Works program

USACE Kansas City District highlights potential for improved support for flood risk management mission Today, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam R. Telle announced a major initiative, “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork,” for the Army’s Civil Works program. “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork” will provide greater focus on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ core Civil Works missions, while minimizing non-core programs, direct funding to priority water resources projects that will provide the greatest benefits to the nation, shorten permitting timelines, and reduce or eliminate extraneous regulations and paperwork that slow USACE’s delivery of Civil Works projects and programs.

Mississippi River Commission and Corps of Engineers tour Missouri River

Leaders from The Mississippi River Commission along with leaders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers toured the Missouri River Mar. 29 – Apr. 1. Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, chief of engineers and commanding general, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Brig. Gen. D. Peter Hemlinger, commander, Northwestern Division, Col. William Hannan Jr., commander, Kansas City District and Col. Mark Himes, commander, Omaha District, met with partners and stakeholders and visited sites along the river.

Kansas City District active in Missouri River flooding

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to provide Mobile Liaison Teams to levee districts and local authorities that have requested assistance through their local emergency managers. We have four teams providing assistance and have plans to deploy more teams. The district has river stages in minor, moderate, and major flood stage at various locations along the Missouri River.

Kansas City District response to Missouri River flooding

We have four Mobile Liaison Teams in the field providing technical assistance to 12 levee owners and operator in Missouri and Kansas. We have distributed over 400,000 sandbags, have more than 4 million on- hand, and have provided sandbagging machines to one location with a 2-person crew.
