Jerry Litton Visitor Center has limited access -

The Jerry Litton Visitor Center at Smithville Lake will have limited access to the display portion of the visitor center due to a contractor working in the building starting Nov 06, 2018 - March 15, 2019.  Please call the office at 816-532-0174 for questions.

Waterfowl Refuge Closed October 15 through January 31
Honker Cove Waterfowl Refuge will be closed October 15 - January 31 to all hunting, boating, fishing, and trapping.

Bald Eagle
Bald Eagles start to arrive at the lake as temperatures drop and geese start migrating south. You can often see Bald Eagles soaring over the lake or sitting on tree limbs near the shoreline.

Snow geese, canada geese, bald eagles, and a variety of ducks visit the lake every winter.

Hunting Season
Hunters may use deer stands on the public hunting ground. However, screw-in steps, nails, and tree cutting is strictly prohibited. Deer stands have to be labeled with the owners name, phone number, and conservation number. Know your boundaries! Consult the lake map or pick one up at the Jerry Litton Visitor Center.

Vistor Center:

8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday through Friday beginning September 17 through March

7 days per week during April to September

 

Annual Pass - Available to everyone - $80

Free Annual Pass for U.S. Military - Available to current U.S. military members and dependents in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard and also, Reserve and National Guard members. Must be obtained in person by showing a Common Access Card or Military ID (Form 1173).

Annual 4th Grade Pass - Available to U.S. 4th graders (including home-schooled and free-choice learners 10 years of age) with a valid Every Kid in a Park paper pass. The Pass is valid for the duration of the 4th grade school year through the following summer (September-August). Paper passes can be obtained by visiting the Every Kid in a Park website (http://store.usgs.gov.pass/PassIssuanceList.pdf). Digital version of the paper pass will not be accepted to exchange for an Annual 4th Grade Pass.

Senior Pass - U.S. Citizens or Permanent residents age 62 or over (Must bring ID for proof of age). - Annual-$20  Lifetime-$80

Access Pass - For U. S. Citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities. - Free - Applicants must provide documentation of permanent disability and residency or citizenship.

Volunteer Pass - For volunteers with 250 service hours with federal agencies that participate in the Interagency Pass Program.

 

America the Beautiful (ATB) passes are sold at Smithville and Longview Project Offices as federal visitor centers.  NOTE: Smithville, Longview and Blue Springs Lakes camping and day use areas DO NOT honor the ATB passes as they are operated by County and City agencies under cost-shared lease agreements. Please check local websites for Clay County Missouri, City of Smithville Missouri and Jackson County Missouri for any discounts offered outside the federal pass program.
