Published Nov. 12, 2012

KANSAS CITY, MO — A demonstration of the applicability of non-lethal technologies for protection of dams and gated spillways from waterside attacks is scheduled to be conducted at the Harry S. Truman Reservoir the week of November 26-30, 2012.

The intent of this demo is to test the features and capabilities of an integrated security system involving commercially-available technologies resulting from research efforts developed by the University of Kentucky.

Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), University of Kentucky, Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Benton County Sherriff’s Department, and private vendor companies associated with the technologies being tested will participate in this demonstration.

There will be minimal impact on daily operations at the Truman Dam facility. From November 26-30, public access to the road across the crest of the dam will be closed. In addition, lake access to fishermen and recreational boats will be restricted within 1,000 feet of the dam.

If there are questions or concerns, please contact USACE at (816) 389-3118 or (417) 399-2206.
